2:26 AM: Testing my university’s upload speed. Speedtest tells me it should be 5x faster than my home’s. Let’s go. Also, quite tired. Did some combination camping+biking over the past 2 days, getting cut short by the hurricane. Only about 32 miles per day, but the hills in the NY/CT countryside are damn tough on a fixed gear.

12:15 PM: Learning to drive a stick reminds me of how exciting it was to first learn to ride fixed - well, not quite.
What’s great about riding fixed is that you can really push yourself and your bike to the limits almost whenever you want in a semi-urban area. When you own a rally car or roadster, when are you ever going to put it to its full potential? Sure it’s cool to own one, but unless you’re pushing it to the limits, it’s just as useful as a regular sedan.
A better bike will get you from point A to B faster and you can always realize the difference if you go for a sprint. You can’t just put the pedal to the metal in your car as you please.
