this is how a certain columbia student dresses. don’t hate your own kind.

I don’t dress this preppy.

The entire preppy look that’s been perpetuated by books like Take Ivy is pretty cool, I’m not going to lie. The thing is, this look was awesome. Today, it isn’t advancing menswear. It’s the same tailored suits, polos, rolled up cargos, blah blah blah.

Individual pieces from collections like these may speak to me enough to purchase them, but I’d never try to emulate the style of these models as I would with other designers if I had the dough.

And the people that do copy these would defend their lack of originality/style by saying, “it’s classic.”

You know what’s fucking classic?

Togas and sandals.

Classic doesn’t mean it’s still relevant.

And before anyone wants to argue with me, I’m not trying to pretend to be some #menswear blogger who lives off ad revenue and their parents’ trust funds. I observe, take mental notes, and formulate opinions.

Opinions.

Also, there’s a huge difference in the well tailored look that companies such as Gant put out and the form-fitting styles that YSL puts out if that wasn’t clear.
